In 2019 Danny Boldroff, the creator of Honeycrates, began thinking about his retirement and the legacy of his life's work. Danny's desire was to see Honeycrates continue and thrive beyond his years.

In 2020 Danny partnered with MBS Equipment Co. to achieve this goal. Danny approached MBSE because they were his largest customer and they shared the same vision that Danny did, to support and grow the people/companies that have built the motion picture industry.

Danny sold Honeycrates to MBSE and has completed the transition of Honeycrates to MBSE. He has now fully retired and is enjoying his time with his wife, children, and grand children. We are so thankful for the hard work, dedication, and love that Danny has put into Honeycrates and the industry as a whole. We wish him the best and look forward to carrying on his legacy.

Our Beginning

Danny Boldroff, a Local 80 Key Grip and also the owner of Ragtime Inc. and Global Backings, felt the need to improve controlling the spread and focusing of film and video LED lighting. Although others had made egg crates, he felt that most did not hold their shape very well which diminished their capacity to evenly control and focus the light. After many hours of research and development we feel that we have a superior product to control and focus light using a soft "travel friendly fabric."  Honeycrates® unique shape and detailed construction hold their shape better with less sag. The unique “slip on” mounting system makes it easy to install in about ¼ of the time.

Another original feature designed into every slip on style Honeycrate® is the sewn in “bootie” which controls the light that normally leaks between a traditional egg crate and the overhead frame.
